The president appears to be leaning towards including Pinochet-era human rights violators in the pardon


As Chile’s Bicentennial celebrations approach, the Catholic Church this week is expected to publicly announce legislation it proposes for granting amnesty to Chilean criminals now in jail.  The Church’s amnesty is focused mostly on older and seriously ill criminals, but will also mostly likely include pardons or some kind of leniency for former military officials convicted for crimes against humanity.
