New law requires Chilean TV to feature more cultural programs

In a bid to strengthen Chileans’ sense of national identity, law mandates increased cultural material on national television. A law coming into effect Oct. 1 makes it compulsory for TV channels to meet obligatory weekly quotas of “cultural programming” — defined as content that reinforces the plethora of cultural identities in Chile — or risk hefty fines.  More...

Santiago unemployment soars in latest quarter

Chile registers highest unemployment rate in two years as economy continues on path of decelerated growth.
