SANTIAGO — The UCV-TV university station has announced indefinite suspension of its press department, citing economic and market factors to be the reason.
“UCV-TV deeply regrets the indefinite suspension of its press area and we emphasize that the reasons are due only to economic and market factors,” the national channel said earlier this week.
The announcement comes two months after the GCO company – which is linked to the company that markets Disney in Chile – bought 90 percent of the channel’s shares.
No news channel will be released again, the state-run news channel said.
The television station, through a statement, explained that “the market conditions in which the media and especially the television industry in Chile are located” are the reason for the drastic measure.
In addition, the channel stated that “it is not feasible” to go ahead with the project for economic reasons.
Finally, the channel thanked the public and the team that integrated the television project.
“Therefore, we thank all the people who were part of this project at UCV-TV over the years and we value their professionalism, dedication and the effort of all those who were part of that team,” the statement concluded.
