SANTIAGO – Chilean salmon and tilapia producer Empresas AquaChile has replaced industrial catcher Corpesca as the largest seafood company in Latin America in terms of turnover, according to Undercurrent News exclusive ranking.
According to the report, AquaChile’s turnover fell in 2016 by 1%, to US$ 619 million. However, El Niño’s impact on anchovy catches made Corpesca’s turnover, owned by the Angelini Group, down 19% to US$ 569 million.
The Top 40 Latin American Seafood Companies 2017 report classifies AquaChile, Corpesca and other 38 seafood companies in Latin America by the size of their billing.
Other companies included in the report are Chilean salmon producers, Peruvian fishmeal producers, Ecuadorian shrimp packers and Mexican tuna canners.–MercoPress
