MEXICO CITY – In the last 10 years, the violent death of a girl, youngster or adult woman occurred in Mexico every four hours, shows the data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI).
In the period from 2007 to 2016, 22,482 females were killed in the 32 states. The main causes were by mutilation, suffocation, drowning, hanging, burned or by firearm.
The Inegi specifies that the investigations for violent homicides initiated by the Public Prosecutors ‘Offices and State Attorneys’ Offices increased from 1083 in 2007 to 2,735 in 2016, which presents an increase of 152 percent.
The central zone of the nation, made up of Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Morelos, Puebla and Tlaxcala, is the one with the highest incidence, accounting for 8,0 65 violent homicides.
