MEXICO CITY/SANTIAGO – Mexico’s President Enrique Peña Nieto will travel to Chile on March 11 to attend the inauguration of Sebastián Piñera, reports the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE).
Peña Nieto will attend the ceremony in which outgoing President Michelle Bachelet will hand over the command to Piñera, who will govern the country for the second time.
Chancellor Luis Videgaray and other diplomats from Mexico will be accompanying the president.
In a statement, the SRE highlighted Mexico’s trade ties with Chile and their mutual collaboration to promote the creation of bilateral and regional cooperation instruments.
“The links of Mexico and Chile are characterized by their constant and frank political dialogue, an increasing economic dynamism since the entry into force in 1999 of the Free Trade Agreement between the two countries, and close cooperation thanks to the Strategic Association Agreement, in force since 2006.
“Also, Mexico and Chile are founding members of the Pacific Alliance, Chile is the third largest trading partner of Mexico in the region and is the fourth largest investor in Latin America and the Caribbean in our country,” the agency said.
