SANTIAGO – Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is to get its first toehold in South America, with a management contract for an existing hotel in Santiago, Chile.
The Hong Kong-based group will ultimately rebrand the existing 310-room Hyatt in the city, but will rename it as Hotel Santiago for now.
Located in the city’s commerce and leisure district of Las Condes, Mandarin will take over the hotel from August, and an extensive guestroom and public area renovation will then commence.
The hotel will remain open and the first stage of renovation is scheduled to complete in August 2018, after which time the group will rebrand it to Mandarin Oriental, Santiago.
Owned by Hotel Corporation of Chile (HCC), the property includes 23 suites with views of the city and the Andes beyond. It also includes a large free-form outdoor pool and landscaped gardens, as well as five restaurants and bars, spa and fitness centre, which will all be renovated in the second phase of work later next year.
The group also recently announced a second project in Dubai, set to open in 2020 and has a hotel opening in Doha, Qatar later this year.
