In a joint statement the two presidents acknowledged “clear and very public differences” on who will pay for the border wall.

Trump y Peña Nieto “acordaron no hablar públicamente de cómo será pago (el muro), que seguirán teniendo esas conversaciones en privado”, dijo Spicer a los periodistas.
Los dos mandatarios mantuvieron el viernes una llamada telefónica de alrededor de una hora de duración para abordar la crisis desatada entre ambos países después de que Trump firmara una orden ejecutiva para la construcción del muro y afirmara que su coste lo iban a pagar los mexicanos “al 100 %”.
El presidente mexicano canceló su viaje de la próxima semana a la capital estadounidense tras la firma por parte de Trump de esa orden ejecutiva, aunque ambos han expresado su interés en mantener el diálogo.
Tras la charla del viernes, las oficinas de Presidencia de ambos países emitieron un comunicado conjunto sobre el contenido de la conversación, pero los textos diferían en un punto.
La nota emitida por el Gobierno mexicano explicaba que ambos mandatarios habían acordado no discutir en público el tema de la financiación de la barrera fronteriza.
Sin embargo, ese punto era omitido en la nota de la Casa Blanca.
“Tuvimos una llamada muy, muy buena. Vamos a trabajar en una relación justa” , aseguró hoy Trump sobre su conversación con Peña Nieto, durante una conferencia de prensa conjunta con la primera ministra británica, Theresa May.
El mandatario estadounidense dijo que “México ha hecho polvo” a Estados Unidos en materia comercial por culpa del Tratado de Libre Comercio de América del Norte (NAFTA), firmado por los dos países junto con Canadá, y reiteró que renegociará su contenido.
“México con Estados Unidos ha negociado y nos ha hecho polvo con nuestros últimos líderes. Nos han hecho parecer estúpidos”, reiteró Trump sobre las relaciones de intercambio comercial entre los dos países.
