KOLKATA – Police in India have arrested seven persons from outside Salt Lake stadium for allegedly selling match tickets on black.
The men were arrested from outside Gate no. 1 of the stadium on Sunday evening. A large number of tickets for the England-Chile and Mexico-Iraq matches were found with them besides Rs3800 in cash, according to the Times of India.
Cops brought them to Bidhannagar South police station and slapped IPC sections of 406 (criminal breach of trust) and 420 (cheating) were slapped on them. They were produced before a Salt Lake court on Monday that sent them to judicial custody.
With tickets for all the 10 matches at Salt Lake stadium, already sold out, several fans were disappointed for not being able to buy match tickets on Sunday. The blackers made the most of the situation by inducting several youths, mostly minors to sell match tickets and premium – Rs. 400 tickets at Rs. 800 at five of the seven gates, barring the VIP entry and the one beside it that had heavy police presence.
