RIO DE JANEIRO – Brazilian President-elect Jair Bolsonaro is to travel to Chile on his first international trip, his future chief of staff confirmed on Monday.
Bolsonaro agreed with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera to make the trip as soon as he has recovered fully from a stabbing at a campaign event last month, according to Congressman Onyx Lorenzoni, who is overseeing transition efforts in Brazil.
Piñera was the first Latin American president to congratulate Bolsonaro and invite him to visit the South American country. “I am sure that we will work with will, strength and vision of the future,” the President wrote on his Twitter account.

Piñera told Bienvenido de Canal 13 that he believes that the relationship with Brazil “will improve substantially.”
He also said that “Brazil is a very important country, it is a continent country and for Chile it is strategic so I hope to have, as I had with President Lula, the best relations with President Bolsonaro”.
