Chile mourns victims of Argentina bus crash

SANTIAGO — Chile’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended its condolences to the families of Argentina bus accident victims.

At least 19 people were killed while 20 others sustained injuries as a bus overturned in the vicinity of Uspallata town of Argentina last Saturday.

Operated by the Chilean company Turbus, the bus was travelling from the province of Mendoza towards Chile with 40 people on board when the accident occurred in the Andes region, more than 1,000km from Buenos Aires.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that two Chilean citizens- Macarena Gaete Carvajal and Lucía Yévenes Márquez – were killed in the accident.

The ministry, through the consulate general in Mendoza and the General Directorate of Consular Affairs, in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and the PDI, also made contact with the affected Chileans and their families from the outset to provide full cooperation.
