A yoga instructor from Texas shot and killed two robbers who broke into her home in Chile last week.
Hari Nam Kaur Khalsa, 61, was in her bedroom when four robbers broke into her home late Thursday. The men beat Khalsa when they found her and tied her up.
The yoga instructor was able to get free and grabbed a Taurus .38 revolver hidden under her pillow. Chilean prosecutor Osvaldo Soto told El Mercurio that Khalsa shot one of the robbers five times. He died inside the home. She shot another robber, who died of his wounds after running outside.
The other two robbers escaped.
The identities of the robbers have not been released. Khalsa lives in Batuco, near Chile’s capital Santiago.
Chilean authorities said Khalsa will not face charges as she acted in self-defense. She will also get extra protection from police for fear that she may face retaliation for shooting the robbers.
Khalsa was born in Texas and studied sociology at the University of Texas. She has been teaching kundalini yoga in Chile since 1979.
