Half of All Chilean Glaucoma Patients Don’t Know They Have It

An estimated 200,000 people in Chile have the disease

According to the Chilean Ophthalmology Society (Sochiof), 200,000 people in Chile have Glaucoma, an illness which significantly reduces vision.  “Nevertheless, over half of them don’t know they have the illness,” said João Lopes, a physician and president of Sochiof.

Glaucoma is Chile’s and the world’s second most common cause of blindness. Yet early detection and prevention is simple.
