Bachelet inaugurates Aysén hospital in southern Chile

PUERTO AYSÉN – Chilean President Michelle Bachelet has inaugurated a new hospital in the city of Puerto Aysén in the southern Aysén region (XI).

The initiative is part of the government’s hospital investment plan and demanded an investment of 37 billion pesos (US$54mn), according to a press release from the presidency.

Bachelet, who is also a pediatrician and epidemiologist, was accompanied by Health Minister Carmen Castillo.

In her inaugural speech, the president emphasized that it is a “modern infrastructure, with state-of-the-art equipment to provide timely, dignified, quality care,” adding that “if today we can celebrate the inauguration of the hospital, to the strength and the push of the neighbors “.

The construction includes 15,000m2 of infrastructure, which means an investment of more than 73 thousand million pesos, considering more than 300 workers for the 28,000 inhabitants of Puerto Aysén, said the president.

This presentation of the new hospital in the extreme south, is realized hours after the Head of State sent the budget 2018 to the Parliament, which has direct relation with health, followed by security and environment, as focus of incumbent government and that will be inherited to the next president.
